With You

With you, and the peach-ball
of the late sun to guide us
home, slowly, across a baked
and
mellow field; drowsy now, after
a
busy day with the skylarks'
song,
a thousand excited butterflies,
a buzz of nectaring bees.
Like '76, when heat seared the
sky
and cindered the tarmac and
trees.
Both sixteen in the park,
coinciding
with a shooting star that
nobody
else looked up to see. Decades
later, and still loving to
linger
in the long days of summer,
with you.
