I discovered you by accident.

Your voice, reading poetry on the car radio.

So I bought you at the

Recommended Retail Price

Of twenty pounds.

(I would have paid more.)

And then, yesterday,

I saw a dead swan.

Blackening, bloodstained,

Soft, white throat.

Death by telephone cable.

And I thought of you

Realising that I too,

In seconds, was wondering

Where to break the lines.
